We left New Orleans on Thursday afternoon and headed up Mississippi towards Tennessee. Our plan was to go out in Memphis on Friday night, but we needed a cheap place to crash Thursday night. I did a bit of searching from the passenger seat and came across a bed & breakfast in Clarksdale, MS that piqued my interest.
It appeared to be a cotton plantation turned junkyard, now home to various "shacks" that they rented out as rooms.
The Shack Up Inn it's called - and it's oozing with fantastic hillbilly personality. Their slogan: "The Ritz We 'Aint!" Love it.
I glimpsed a few photos of their decor online: classic cars happily rusting in fields, wire garden trees made from recycled glass bottles, old gas station signs hung like art - I was sold.
Called them up from the road and they had one Shack left!
"Git on down here this here shack has y'alls name on it! Y'all take yer time now, we 'aint gunn give it away to no one else. Keys'll be in the front mailbox when y'all pull in, 'n we'll see ya in the morn' whenever y'all wake up!"
Shack Up Inn may have been our best find of the trip. You're Welcome.
