From Texas we drove through Louisiana to our next stop: The Big Easy, New Orleans.
Our college friend Martin put us up for a few days and gave us a local's guide to experiencing NOLA. Of course we hit the tourist classics - French Quarter, Bourbon Street, Cafe Du Monde - but we also browsed art galleries on Magazine Street, danced to live jazz on Frenchmen Street, admired mansions in the Garden District and indulged in the best Jambalaya and Po' Boy sandwiches around town.
The streets were pretty tame (it was midweek in the middle of October), but we still threw on some beads and boas for good measure.
It's always Mardi Gras in New Orleans as far as we're concerned ;)
After ending our night on Bourbon Street, we woke up feeling kind of dirty. But after a shower and another charming trolley ride to the French Quarter, we were excited for some more touristy exploration before hitting the road.
Live jazz, ridiculous food, colorful architecture, and eccentric costumes. New Orleans, you were a winner.
We'll be back!
